Ode to Jubelale

Oh Deschutes, how do I love thee?
In so many ways...
IPA, Black Butte, Green Lake and that seasonal
chocolate espresso one we had in Bend last June...
but I especially enjoy Jubelale.
The label is cool and has the word "festive" which
makes me think of Festivus and it makes me happy.
It tastes pretty darn good too,
A little dark, like it is outside,
A little hoppy, like a winter chill,
Goes down easy and one is enough.
Yes, Deshutes, you have done it again,
Given me another reason to enjoy the season!

I wish I were this witty! I am sick of hearing about Tiger Woods. Did anybody really think he was different than any other rich guy!?!? They just can't keep it in their pants. They have to share the wealth. I'm not surprised and I wish Nike would drop him, but they won't.

Thanksgiving

There are so many things to be thankful for, but in my Scandinavian way, I can't help but think of all the people who have so little in this world. I don't want to be a downer, so I'll stop and just enjoy the moment.

The moment...slept well last night. Almost everyone is healthy again. We will get together with friends and my friend is good enough to host us all. We have jobs, decent paying job. True, bonus would be nice, but doubtful this year. Yes, I have some bratty kids this year, but you'd be bratty too if you had their home-life.

OK, this is when I miss my extended family and I think, "What the hell am I doing out here is OREGON?" Do I really live in OREGON? It's so far from everyone!!! But it is reality. THIS IS IT. We live in Oregon, we really like it, and our needs are met. And hey, some random survey said this is the #1 place to raise a family. If you like suburbia. Which I do and don't. Conflicted on that.

Back to THE MOMENT. I will say some prayers for those who don't have what they need.
I will enjoy my family and friends. I will be nice, especially to those closest to me.

Fructose is EVIL

I had time during our ride to Seattle to watch this and it blew me away! I have always believed that input = output when it comes to body weight/eating. IT'S NOT TRUE! Fructose changes everything. I heard something similar on NPR one time, but after watching this talk, I understand the chemistry.

Basically...fruit juice and anything with high fructose corn syrup is evil...it goes almost directly to fat. The key is to avoid fruit juice, corn syrup and eat a lot more fiber. He also talks about ethanol, another poison.

Bottom line fruit juice/fructose corn syrup = poison
(unless you are an elite athlete, of course)

Parenting based on the Dog Whisperer...I love it! But really, setting limits and asserting power!?!! Hey, if it's good enough for dogs, it's good enough for me. Maybe he could branch into classroom management. Believe you me, the pack mentality is in play in middle school.
